The Jewish Museum Augsburg Swabia is a museum of a historical minority. It is also a museum that, from its grounding in the Jewish history of Bavarian Swabia, poses questions about the present and future of our society. This is a place where aspects of migration, integration, belonging and culture are discussed from a Jewish perspective. And it is a place where diversity is neither a threat nor a selling point but simply a reality.

Open and connected

Our vision is an open museum that networks and interacts with the city, influencing its life and culture. That’s why the Jewish Museum not only opens its doors to visitors but also reaches out to the public where it lives and works. With art in public spaces, handicap-accessible offerings for all and cooperative projects with institutions of the city and the District of Bavarian Swabia, we want to make Jewish history and culture visible and palpable, moving us towards a more open, more pluralistic and less discriminatory society.

Diversity

Our task is not merely to portray the broad range of Jewish perspectives on the past and present but to make those perspectives come alive and to spur people to self-reflection. For us, a museum is not a place but an activity: it is anywhere museum happens. With our online presence, our outreach activities and our site-independent program and educational offerings, we work to extend our influence beyond our geographical location.

At the same time, the Jewish Museum Augsburg Swabia remains deeply rooted in its geography. The museum maintains close ties with its home city of Augsburg, the Jewish Community Swabia-Augsburg and the region of Bavarian Swabia. It operates under the auspices of the Foundation of the Jewish Culture Museum Augsburg-Swabia.
